Storyboard

This task is a contribution to the planning and research. This specific task was necessary to complete in order to make sure that the particular shot types/angles and cinematography aspects of our thriller that we had chosen were suitable and correct. We also had to enable that our actor was in character in the storyboard in order to determine that we had made the right choice regarding our actor. The props that are present in the storyboard were specified in the costume and props list - our former research into thriller films supplied us with the knowledge of what props and costumes met the specification of the thriller genre codes and conventions. After completing this task, we are one step further to completing our two minute opening of a thriller sequence - we now have a clearer idea of what are thriller opening will look like due to the storyboard.

Vox Pop

Vox Pop

The completion of this Vox Pop video was necessary due to it is a contribution to the completion of our research and planning associating with our target audience. Firstly, we needed to know what our audiences expectations of a thriller consist of in order to meet their standards. This particular task was interesting in the result aspect, due to one member of our audience was unaware of what a thriller was and was confused between thriller and horror - a common mistake, due to the chilling and scary aspects of a thriller that viewers might find frightening. This made myself, and the other members of R.E.M productions more aware of how we would be able to create a thriller using the genre codes and conventions that would be able to show the distinct difference between the two genres - Horror and Thriller.

Parity Re-Make.

This is our groups re-make of parity, during the editing process we lost our final two shots of the knife being placed in the killers pocket and him exciting the murder scene. We were unable to find these clips so we made and colour graded the footage without the final 2 shots.

Music for Thriller, Possible ideas.

Although this song was originally used in a film which fell under the horror genre i feel that it is effective for our opening sequence as it creates a great sense of suspense and mystery due to its quite introduction and dramatic build up. We intend to use the song from 1.30 - 3.30 as that fits the two minute length of our title sequence and it allows for the music to build up and then fall again.

The second option that i chose was the main theme of Batman: The Dark Knight. This is a different style of piece to the song above. It creates less suspense but it is more suited to a thriller film and i also felt that it suited the actions that would be taking place in our opening sequence better. However as our thriller has a psychological aspect the erratic sounds of the first piece suit it better so we are yet to decide as a group on which piece we shall be using.#

Test Shots

This is our chosen actor for our opening of a thriller sequence. Visible in the test shots is the choice of make-up and costume R.E.M productions has specifically chosen. The make up highlights the narrative and characteristics present due to our character is an insomniac and therefore the pale face and dark eyes emphasis this factor. Our actor has been specifically featured in a suit in order to relate to thriller codes and conventions present in the mise-en-scene aspects due to thriller costumes generally consist of suits - which also links to narrative associating with the character as he is an assassin. The actor plays the role of an isolated assassin who has just entered the twenties. He lives a reclusive live in London.

Scene Walk-through

This is the shot list for out thriller opening 'Looped'
It has helped us work out how many shots we are going to have and the duration of the shot - our scene walk-through has made us realise that we should be within the time limit and have enough shots to have the correct amount of titles needed. It has also told us which title will be matched up to which shot.

Iconic Directors Group Task

For our Iconic Directors task we printed photos of 3 iconic directors, Alfred Hitchcock, Quentin Tarantino & David Fincher - we stuck the photos to a wall and put the directors face in shot, we then recorded audio over the top with the commentary. We all had equal involvement, each of our voices were used on the audio. Rosie edited the videos together on Windows Movie Maker to make one clip and placed a blue tone effect on the video to include a convention of a thriller.

Thriller Subgenre & Narratives

This is a presentation Martin and Emma made using the website xtranormal. We chose to use this way of presenting it as it is more aesthetically pleasing than just a simple PowerPoint and it also will stick in the memory of those who view it more. The presentation tells of 4 narrative techniques and the sub genres of thriller films. It also explains what an enigma code is. I felt it was a worthwhile activity as it gave us a new way to present work but also improved our group work.

Though Rosie is in our group, she completed her presentation as a fourth member of a different group for this task, this can be found on her individual blog which is found here:
